As for updates to my site, I adjusted the frame sizes so that annoying frame scroll bar will disappear on most people's screen. Also, realized I had mistyped my email address (no wonder I wasn't getting any email) so I fixed that. Sorry, I haven't finished my FAQ yet so no screenshots of laser rot yet.
6/28/99 - Image Entertainment confirmed that Saving Private Ryan is coming out tomorrow. Those who preordered the disc probably already received it (another perk to preordering). Patch Adams - Signature Collection has been delayed to July 17. This is disappointing because the DVD is already in stores (I saw it today). The Mummy, which is still in theaters, has been announced for DVD. While it hasn't been announced as such, it appears to be part of Universal's Signature Collection due to the extras it contains. In the recent past, laserdisc and DVD Signature Collections have been released near simultaneously and with near identical extras. This bodes well for a packed laserdisc release.
Updates to my site include minor tweaking to my FAQ. I added more info on how to return defective Columbia TriStar laserdiscs and fixed a ton of spelling errors (oops!). In the near future, I hope to add screenshots of rotted disc's picture. Once you see a rotted disc you will never mistake it with anything else. Hopefully, I will begin writing laserdisc reviews soon although I haven't bought many discs recently. I won't be buying Saving Private Ryan (even though a lot of people will) because I thought it was a poor rip-off of Combat (remember that TV show?) and a few other WW2 movies (SPR stole the plot and entire characters from those old movies but added an depressing post Vietnam spin to it - it appeared as if Spielburg couldn't decide if SPR was an homage or a serious movie) and Patch Adams was plain too mushy. If I have enough money, I might buy (probably not because I'm really short on money) the V miniseries on LD which is IMHO the best sci-fi miniseries ever. Whatever your taste in movies is, watch it on LD and drop me a line. I'm interested in what you think and I might even post it (with your permission of course) on my site.
6/18/99 - Good news and bad news. The good news is that this site is finally open (although not everything works yet) and that Dreamworks movies are finally being released. The first movie that is going to be released is Saving Private Ryan on June 29. Mousehunt,Peacemaker, Antz, Paulie, Amistad, In Dreams, Small Soldiers and Prince of Egypt will follow. Surprisingly, Antz was announced with a lower retail price than the DVD although there is no info on what extras, if any, are included with the LD. Preorder your Dreamworks LD's now. The bad news is that the Criterion Company (previously Voyager) has decided to stop releasing LD's. Worse yet, many of the LD's will never make it to DVD since Criterion lost the rights to them.
